tips from the stylist

As a licensed cosmetologist, it is my job to educate my clients so that they will have a successful & healthy natural hair journey. Here are some tips to help maintain your crown.

  1. Shampoo AND condition your hair WHEN necessary, especially if you work out or heavily perspire. Normally once a week or every other week.

  2. REMEMBER to get your ends trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks or whenever your stylist recommends as it will aid in your journey to long healthy hair.

  3. Sleep with a satin or silk scarf/bonnet. Stay away from cotton because it may rob your hair of it's moisture.

  4. Shampoo your hair immediately after swimming to remove chlorine from your hair.

  5. Never oil your scalp before bed. It's best to do it in the morning or mid-day to give the oil a chance to soak in and penetrate.

  6. While detangling your hair its best that your hair is saturated with water. Be sure to brush or comb from the ends to roots.

  7. Learn the difference between dry hair and dry scalp.. it will better help you determine which products to use.

  8. Don't forget about your ends! It is the oldest and driest part of you hair. Apply your favorite oil to your ends as well.

  9. Learn the difference between oils. Some oils have small molecules and other  have large molecules. Oils with small molecules will be able to penetrate into the hair shaft. If the oil is sitting on your hair it's not working.

  10. ALL products will not work for everybody, you have to learn & understand your hair in order to know what it needs.

  11. Do not share your comb or brush. If you do so be sure to clean them.
